Sadly St Peter’s Church has had to close it’s Church Centre. The decision was taken very regretfully by the PCC following a structural survey that highlighted the poor condition of the roof and made it impossible to declare the building safe. Despite regular repairs to the roof, the tiles are now badly worn and the roof is leaking. Timbers supporting the roof are also in a poor condition.
The survey findings and the subsequent closure is a big shock and the PCC realises how disruptive it will be for everyone using the centre and for anyone who was planning to use it.
While we don’t anticipate any immediate danger, the building will be roped off which means parking on the site will be limited and mostly on the Paddock.
In the meantime the PCC has offered the church as an alternative meeting place for the groups and organisations using the church centre regularly and the Coach House on the site for use by Boots and Brambles.
The structural survey of the Church Centre was taken as an initial step towards replacing the building with a new church and community centre and this remains our ambition if sufficient funding grants are available.
